How do I get a Provisional Driving License ?
You need to get an application form (DL1) from the Post Office or local Test (MoT) Centre. You have to fill this out, provide a colour photograph, evidence of your identity, the current fee of £62.50 and post it to DVA in Coleraine.

When can I start driving lessons ?
As soon as you have a valid provisional driving license and are at least 17 years old. So on your 17th birthday at the earliest !!
I already have a provisional license but am not 17 until next month. Can I drive now ?

What is an Instructor (or ADI) number ?
Every approved driving instructor is given a unique number which means they are on the official register. You should check that your instructor is approved and therefore legal !
Danny's number is 1797.
How do I pick an instructor ?
How did you find this website ? Recommended ?
The best way is to ask around for actual recommendations. Try asking your friends and family. Reputation is everything. You want to be comfortable with the person teaching you.
Beware of cheap lessons and special offers ! They can work out expensive in the end.
A good instructor will be too busy to offer discounts.
How do I know if an instructor is legal ?
By law every instructor must display their certificate of registration or ADI license. It must be visible in the car or worn around the body similar to a taxi drivers license. It should have a colour photo of the holder. If in doubt you can check with DVA on 028 9054 7933.
Are all instructors fully qualified ?
NO! Some driving schools hire trainee driving instructors. They have passed the written and driving tests required to become instructors but have yet to pass the teaching part. They are legally entitled to practice teaching while partly supervised but are not fully qualified instructors.
